Happiness and Gratitude

You asked:  “What are you so happy about? “

Me:  Oh, let me count the ways….

I am happy with my mind that imagines and creates

and a body that can experience life.

I have legs and feet that allow me to go places,

run at the parks and walk up to the mountains.

Oh, the freedom I feel when I get to go exploring,

I feel connected to the whole and I worry no more.

I have hands, all ten fingers that allow me to write these words that I allow me to convey my thoughts and feelings with you,

to turn the pages of a book, to cook a meal or prepare a snack.

I have ears that allow me to listen to music that touches me deeply

and hear the birds happily chirping outside.

I’m happy because I have these cute flat nose

that allow me to smell baking bread

or coffee being brewed.

I have my mouth to taste delicious fruit and all my favorite food.

I have my eyes to read,

to see the green of trees, various shapes and vibrant flowers,

and the clear blue sky that later turns into a canvas painted in many different colors.

I have my skin to soak the warmth of the sun

and feel the refreshing breeze brush against my face.

I have my health that allows me to be out in the world.

I have a heart that beats and feels the joy of connection,

of feeling loved and appreciated,

of loving others just as they are.

I have a family that is always there,

and friends that mirror who I am, who challenge and inspire me.

I am happy because this world is so rich

and filled with so many wondrous things to discover

for I am the curious type, always wanting to know.

I am thankful because I have this thing called life supported by everything and everyone.
