What is Beauty

As a woman, there is pressure from society to look good. Because if you don’t look good, no one will love you. No one will want to date you. No one will want  to marry you. And if you’re ugly then you are left on your own, all alone in misery. This is the script, and lots of women fall for it.

This focus on beauty is evident  in advertisements, and the enormous amount of beauty products produced today. According to the Forbes website, the beauty industry is a whooping $445 Billion.  It is apparent that women want to be youthful and beautiful. But is this how we want to be known as a generation? By how we look?  People don’t want to look old. They don’t want wrinkles.  They want a polished, unblemished face.  They want to hide every imperfection.  This is understandable because our society as a whole is pretty judgmental. No one wants to feel outcasted. We want to be accepted.  With all this focus on beauty, there is more pressure for a woman to look good.

I’m not writing against make-up nor will I start a campaign against beauty products.  However, I do want to talk about real beauty, the one that lasts.  This is my reflection on what I feel is a truly beautiful person.

Beauty is found in authenticity.  It means that you are naturally yourself and you are not trying to become someone else.   You are unique in your own way.  When you accept your own uniqueness, you will feel beautiful because you live in your own truth.

Beauty is being kind and compassionate. It is seeing others through the eyes of love or spirit.  It is pure and it seeks to elevate and uplift others.

It is time that we value character over outward appearances. It is time that we value kindness over beautiful dresses.  Instead of trying to be perfect, we can make peace with our bodies.

When you get a hold of the vision of your inner reality, your confidence will not be based on how beautiful you look or how much you weigh.  You would have a different perspective in life which is one that is focused within rather than without.  Seeing beauty becomes easy to you because you are able to differentiate between what is true and what is not. You can see your own beauty and the beauty of others without having to alter your physical state. And if you do change your state, you are motivated by love and bringing out more joy and happiness in the world. You are not dependent on the opinion of others because you are already internally secure. You feel beautiful with or without make-up.

Only you can discover this beauty within and only you can realize it.  When you realize that you are love itself, you will no longer seek external validation.  You will stop people pleasing.  You will no longer have the need to compare yourself with others because you are content with the light that you hold within.
